There’s a heist happening in plain sight.
Hospitals are making off like bandits with money meant to help low-income patients.
And now they’re pushing for more with Connecticut’s SB 494.
Even after a UConn Hospital Executive admitted on tape that their scheme exploits low-income and vulnerable patients, some CT lawmakers still want to help the bandits get away with it.
Don’t just take our word for it. See for yourself in this video….
A UConn Hospital official stutters while trying to field questions from CT lawmakers about how hospitals pocket millions from discounts on cancer drugs and other medications - discounts that are supposed to help vulnerable patients.
Rather than passing those savings on as intended, many hospitals charge patients full price and keep the difference.
That’s not care, that’s greed.
What’s worse is instead of shutting down the scam, some CT lawmakers want to protect the hospitals cashing in and expand the very system that lets them do it with a bill called SB494.
Help us stop the patient steal & hold the hospital bandits accountable: call your CT lawmakers today!
Connecticut patients need your voice.
SB 494 would protect and expand a system that lets hospitals buy prescription drugs at steep discounts, charge patients full price, and keep the difference. If you think hospital bandits should not be rewarded for ripping off patients, now is the time to speak up.
-
Step 1: Go to the Connecticut legislator finder: Find Your Legislator
Here, you will be asked to select your town, then enter your street name, then enter your house number.
The tool will then show your State Senator and State Representative.
NOTE: it will also show you your US Senator and Representative; however, there is no need to call them.
Click on the State Senator or Representative’s names. That will take you to their landing page, which will have a “contact” section.
Call both offices and tell them to vote NO on SB494.
See step 2 for talking points.
-
Keep it short & direct. Staff track calls, and every call matters, especially from constituents within a legislator’s district.
You can use these talking points:
I am a Connecticut resident and constituent of yours, and I’m calling to urge a NO vote on SB 494.
Hospitals should NOT be allowed to buy prescription drugs at steep discounts and then charge patients full price.
A program meant to help low-income and vulnerable patients should NOT be used to pad hospital profits.
Before lawmakers expand or protect this system, they should require REAL accountability and proof.
Connecticut lawmakers should stand with patients, not hospitals with record-high profits year after year.
Extra tips for callers:
Don’t hesitate to share your personal story. Real stories matter, and help legislators understand how these issues work in real life.
When you call, ask the staff person to take down your name and town and to pass your message directly to the legislator. If you reach voicemail, leave your name, town, the bill number (SB 494), and your request for the legislator to vote NO.
-
Follow the same instructions under Step 1 to find your legislators and their contact information.
Send an email, and be sure to sign off with your name and town/zip code so they know you are their constituent.
SAMPLE EMAIL:
Dear [Senator/Representative Last Name],
I am a constituent from [TOWN], and I am writing to urge you to vote NO on SB 494.
Hospitals should not be allowed to buy prescription drugs at steep discounts through a program intended to help low-income and vulnerable patients, then turn around and charge patients full price while keeping the difference.
If this program is truly serving patients, lawmakers should demand accountability and proof that the savings are reaching the people who need them most. Instead, SB 494 would protect and expand a system that too often benefits hospitals more than patients.
Connecticut should stand with patients and families - not hospital bandits getting away with a rip-off.
Please vote NO on SB 494.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
[YOUR NAME]
